Hollows are owl-like Nightmarens and recurring enemies in the NiGHTS series.

Character Information[]

Physical Appearance[]

Hollows are owls with pink head, a small yellow beak and green eyebrows with a yellow orb resembling a jester hat. They have a striped torso and orange feet as well as wings that are green on one side and pink on the other.

Personality[]

Like most of the third level Nightmarens, Hollows are agressive and act like vicious animals. Also, when they see Nightopians, Hollows won't stop chasing them until they eat them.

Abilities[]

Flight

Like most of the Nightmarens, Hollows are shown to be capable of flying.

Energy Orb

Hollows have the ability of shooting an energy orb from their beak.

History[]

NiGHTS into Dreams[]

Hollows can be found in Spring ValleySplash Garden and Frozen Bell. Two Hollows appear right at the beginning of Splash Garden and Frozen Bell, and steal two of Elliot's ideyas once he enters in one of those Nightopias.

After the Visitors dualize with NiGHTS, the Hollows throughout the levels will shoot a small energy orb at NiGHTS. If NiGHTS gets hit, they will be damaged and will lose five seconds.

Defeating a Hollow will add 200 points for the player's score.

A Hollow painting also appears on Puffy's mansion, during her boss battle.

Mepian

The Hollow Mepians are almost completely indentical to a Hollow, having a very similar head with Hollow's beak and jester hat-like eyebrows, a striped torso with orange and blue stripes and small Hollow feet. A notable difference is that while Hollow's antennas are close to each other, the Hollow Mepian ones apart themselves from each other. Also, the wings on Hollow Mepians' back are just green and instead of arms, the Hollow Mepians have pink wings.

A Hollow Mepian egg is pink with a bottom that has orange and blue stripes.

Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams[]

Hollows appear in the Christmas NiGHTS version of Spring Valley. Once again, the Hollows will shoot a small energy orb at NiGHTS when they see them. If they succeed, NiGHTS will lose five seconds.

Mepian

The Hollow Mepian and its egg are identical to their NiGHTS into Dreams' designs.

Other Media Appearances[]

NiGHTS Flying Through the Sky Without Wings[]

NiGHTS Archie Comics[]

Jackle uses a Hollow to make a Mepian in the the second issue of the Archie Comic series. The Mepian created only has Hollow's eyebrows and torso.

Triva[]

  • Hollow was the only Spring Valley enemy who didn't make a physical appearance in the Dream Valley circuit from Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
    • However, Hollow does make a cameo as a paiting on Puffy's mansion during the second lap.
  • In the NiGHTS Archie Comics, a Hollow says "No!". This makes Hollow the only Third Level Nightmaren to ever say something.
  • In Journey of Dreams, Mothpils' behavior is similar to Hollow's, as Mothpils also shoot a projectile at NiGHTS. However, while Hollow's energy orb is small, fast and travels long distance, Mothpil's red energy ring is big, slow and travels short distance.
  • Both Hollows and Owl are based on the same animal, though, Hollow is a Nightmaren and Owl is a Nightopia resident.
