Ideyas is a featured article, which means it was recognized as one of the best articles of this Wiki.

The Ideyas (pronounced ih-dee-yah) are five colored, crystalline orbs representing human dream energy. Their light is what creates the Nightopias and Nightopians in the Night Dimension.

About[]

The Ideyas are human dream energy. According to Owl in NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, their light is what creates the Nightopias in the Night Dimension, reflecting something about the Visitors. According to the (now unavailable) NiGHTS into Dreams English website, the Nightopians are also created when two Ideyas collide.

The Nightmarens often steal the Ideyas from the Visitors who are on their way to the Night Dimension to further their goal of destroying Nightopia. Once they steal enough of Ideyas, Wizeman will be able to open a portal to the waking world and rule it all.[1]

Each Visitor possesses five different Ideyas, they are the Red Ideya of Courage, the White Ideya of Purity, the Blue Ideya of Intelligence, the Green Ideya of Wisdom/Growth and the Yellow Ideya of Hope. The red Ideya of Courage is the most powerful of the Ideyas, and due to its power, only the most powerful Nightmarens can steal it.[1]

As shown in the games, when the Visitors dualize with NiGHTS, they allow NiGHTS to use their red Ideya. This makes NiGHTS strong enough to be able to leave their prison, and to fight against the Nightmarens and even their own creator, Wizeman.

In both NiGHTS into Dreams and Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams, the Nightmarens steal the White Ideya from Elliot and Claris at the beginning of every level along with the Blue, Green and Yellow ones. This Ideya is always recovered in every level's first lap.

In Journey of Dreams, the White Ideya is only available to win in William's Pure Valley dream, and Helen's Aqua Garden dream.

Red Ideya of Courage[]

The Red Ideya (NiD credits)

The red Ideya represents courage. It is the rarest type of dream energy and the only type that the Nightmarens (aside from first level's) cannot steal.

In both NiGHTS into Dreams and Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams, the red Ideya is the only one that the Nightmarens never steal from Elliot and Claris, as it is too powerful for them.[1] This gives the visitors the opportunity to dualize with NiGHTS for a limited time and to recover the other four stolen Ideyas.

In NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, this is the only Ideya that William and Helen have at the beginning of the game and thanks to it, Will and Helen are capable of realising NiGHTS from the cage.

When the visitors are brave enough, their red Ideya allows them to fly by themselves, as shown in the climax of both NiGHTS into Dreams and Journey of Dreams. In NiGHTS: Flying Through the Sky Without Wings, Elliot's courage makes his red Ideya so strong to the point he is even capable of defeating Reala by himself. When a Nightmaren is able to steal the red Ideya, the Visitor becomes very soulless and loses all of the interest in their dreams. This is shown in the NiGHTS comic series by Archie Comics, where Claris didn't have interest in her dreams anymore after giving her red Ideya away to Wizeman.

Wizeman is currently the only Nightmaren who has been able to steal someone's red Ideya. In NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, he steals Helen's red Ideya in Bellbridge. However, William is somehow able to restore her courage and the Red Ideya.

In the Archie Comics, It is revealed that the ruby on NiGHTS' chest is a shard of the red Ideya of courage which latched onto them. However, it should be noted that the Archie Comics are a different canon and that the origin of NiGHTS' red ruby could be different in the game series.

History[]

NiGHTS into Dreams[]

In NiGHTS into Dreams, Elliot and Claris have all five Ideyas at the beginning of the levels. However, the Nightmarens steal all of them but the red one and leave them inside a jellyfish-like machine called Ideya Capture. The player must make the visitors dualize with NiGHTS, then collect 20 Blue Chips and go inside the Ideya Capture to destroy it and get the Ideya back. Each level has four laps; each lap has one Ideya to recover. Once all four Ideyas are recovered, the player will face a boss.

Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams[]

Just like in NiGHTS into Dreams, Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams sees Elliot and Claris with all their Ideyas but the red one stolen by the Nightmarens at the beginning of the levels and placed inside the Ideya Captures. Once again, the player must make the Visitors dualize with NiGHTS and collect 20 blue chips to destroy the Ideya Captures and recover the Ideyas.

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams[]

In NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, Will and Helen have lost all of their Ideyas but the red one on their way to the Night Dimension. With NiGHTS help, they go after the four Ideyas, which are hidden in their Nightopias. Once Will and Helen retrieve them all, peace will be restored in Nightopia and their hearts will win over the Nightmarens.

Other Media Appearances[]

NiGHTS: Flying Through the Sky Without Wings[]

Elliot vs Reala (Storybook)

Elliot's red Ideya in NiGHTS: Flying Through the Sky Without Wings.

Only the red Ideya of Courage appears in the NiGHTS storybook, NiGHTS: Flying Through the Sky Without Wings. When NiGHTS and Elliot were trying to figure how to release NiGHTS from the Ideya Palace, NiGHTS asks Elliot to stand his hand. This makes a red light appears which fuses them together and releases NiGHTS.

Later, NiGHTS and Elliot starts fighting Nightmarens, when Reala appears, imprisons NiGHTS and sends Elliot to the top of a cold and dark cliff. When Elliot gets conscious again, he starts hearing NiGHTS screaming for help. NiGHTS tells Elliot to trust him and dive into the darkness under the cliff. Despite being very afraid, Elliot notices Nightopia being destroyed by the Nightmarens and remembers that NiGHTS is his friend. As he jumps into the darkness, his red Ideya begins glowing really bright and it even gives Elliot the ability to fly by himself. Elliot's Ideya makes Reala flee and NiGHTS is released from the prison.

As NiGHTS and Elliot were celebrating Reala's defeat, Wizeman appears and wraps both into deep darkness. However NiGHTS and Elliot didn't fear it, and Elliot's red Ideya made them glow red. Their courage made a tiny light appear, when NiGHTS and Elliot came closer to it, the light absorbed all of the darkness. Wizeman fled, but promised to return as soon as weakness is born again inside either NiGHTS or Elliot's heart.

NiGHTS Archie Comics[]

NiGHTSEscaping (Archie)

NiGHTS with two red Ideyas in the NiGHTS Archie Comics.

Only the red Ideya of Courage appears in the NiGHTS into Dreams comic series by Archie Comics. Every century there are two visitors, a boy and a girl, who each possess a red Ideya with the purest red power capable of breaking a barrier between the dream world and the waking world.

In the first issue, Wizeman had captured these two visitors and their red Ideyas. However, it is at that moment that NiGHTS starts their rebellion and flies away with the Ideyas. NiGHTS uses the Ideyas to make a small gap in the magical barrier and releases the Ideyas in the waking world. As they do that, a small shard of a red Ideya latches onto their chest and creates a small red ruby. Wizeman would now have to wait for a whole century to get the next two perfect dreams; these would be Elliot and Claris.

In the second issue, Elliot is fighting Jackle when the latter tries to convince Elliot to give him his red Ideya and in exchange, all of his dreams coming true. However, Elliot refuses to and defeats Jackle. Meanwhile, Claris meets up with Wizeman, who manages to convince her to give her red Ideya to him and in exchange, all of her dreams will come true.

In the third issue, Reala tries to steal Elliot's red Ideya by force. However, Elliot is able to trick Reala by giving him a basketball disguised as the Ideya. Meanwhile, Wizeman is about to use Claris' red Ideya to break the barrier when Napp takes it back and give the Ideya back to Claris. Both Elliot and Claris later combine their red Ideyas' powers to release NiGHTS from a prison and defeat Wizeman once and for all.
