The King Pian (also known as Super Pian) is a rare type of Nightopian and recurring minor character in the NiGHTS series. As the name suggests, he is the king of all the Nightopians.
Character Information[]
Physical Appearance[]
In NiGHTS into Dreams and Christmas NiGHTS, the King Pian wears red royal clothes, has the regular Nightopians' orange arms and instead of a halo, he has a small tiara-like crown with a red jewel. He is also the size of a regular Nightopian.
In the Sega Saturn version of the games above, the King Pian has dark blue feet and his wings color changes from pink, to green and to cyan.[1] In the HD remasters, his feet are white and his wings are always pink, even in the Sega Saturn mode of the games. Also in the Sega Saturn version, the King Pian has black eyes, but in the HD remasters, he has dark blue eyes.
In Journey of Dreams, the King Pian looks like a regular Nightopian, but bigger. He has brown eyes, a purple torso with an orange belt and cape. He also has orange arms and shoes, and this time, he has a halo as well as a much bigger golden crown with a cross on the top.
Personality[]
The King Pian appears to be smarter than the average Nightopians and isn't afraid to fight against Nightmarens.
Abilities[]
Flight
The King Pian is shown to be capable of flying, like a regular Nightopian.
Rocks
The King Pian can throw rocks at third level Nightmarens.
About[]
When the King Pian appears, he builds a castle in the level and attacks the Nightmarens by throwing rocks at them. If the Mepians are too aggressive towards Nightopians, the King Pian will see them as a thread too[2] and will attack these Mepians until NiGHTS kills them with the paraloop.
The player must keep visiting and beating the entire level where the King Pian is, as he will always add something new for his castle each time the player completes the level. Also, the player must always kill the Nightmarens and agressive Mepians who are near the King Pian, or else he will stop the construction of his castle to attack the enemies and will not stop until they are gone.
The player must beat the level nine times in order to the King Pian finish the construction of his castle. Once the castle is finished, the King Pian will disappear, just like the regular Nightopians. The castle he built is permanently added to the level though.
How to get a King Pian[]
The King Pian is born when two Mepians, each with only one Nightmaren body part, breed.[3] However, the Mepians must have different Nightmaren body parts.[3] For example, if one of the Mepians has a Nightmaren head, the other can't.
To make the Mepians breed, it is necessary to make them happy. The player can do that by defeating Nightmarens in the levels, avoiding drill dash near the Mepians and of course, the player shall not paraloop the Nightopians and Mepians.[3]
It should be noted that the chances of getting the King Pian are random. This means that breeding two different Mepians with a single Nightmaren body part may simply result into another Mepian. The chances of getting the King Pian egg are 1 out of 4.[4]
