Murtles are sea turtle-like third level Nightmarens and enemies in NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams.

Character Information

Physical Appearance

Murtles resemble sea turtles. They have green head and blue and purple flippers. Instead of a shell, they have a blue and yellow mirror in their backs.

Personality

Like most of the third level Nightmarens, Murtles are agressive and act like vicious animals. Also, when they see Nightopians, Murtles won't stop chasing them until they eat them.

Like most of the Nightmarens, Murtles are shown to be capable of flying.

Shapeshifting

Murtles have the ability of turning themselves into smaller versions of NiGHTS and treasure chests.

History

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams

Murtles can only be found in Crystal Castle. They shapeshift either into treasure chests or into smaller versions of NiGHTS drill dashing. If NiGHTS comes close to a Murtle while it is disguised, the Murtle will reveal itself though an explosion, damaging NiGHTS and taking five seconds from the timer.

In Crystal Castle's third mission, the Murtles will try to attack Helen as she tries to guide Will through the level. Helen can protect herself by tossing Blue Chips at them.

Defeating a Murtle will add 100 points for the player's score.

Mepian

Murtle Mepian.

The Murtle Mepians have a round green head with a Nightopian halo and goggling eyes, and a green torso with a golden coat. Their arms are green with a golden stripe and their feet are green and triangular shaped. The Murtle Mepians also have green, blue and purple wings resembling Murtle's flippers.

"Murtle relies on stealth and cunning to attack its targets. It is always disguised as something non-threatening: a Blue Chip, a Treasure Chest, or even NiGHTS himself! Murtle's disguise isn't perfect, though – it's always a little bit brighter than the real thing. Approach disguised Murtles carefully to get them to reveal their true form, which is the only time you can defeat them."
